Granite Container Capacity Calculator: Slabs, Tiles & Blocks

Square Feet ↔ Square Meters

Instructions: How to Calculate Granite, Marble & Stone Container Loads for Shipping Containers and Trucks

  • Select Your Transport Unit:
    • Choose whether you are loading a shipping container (20ft, 40ft, or custom) or a truck/trailer as your transport unit type.
  • Set Maximum Payload:
    • The calculator auto-fills the standard maximum payload for containers. For trucks or custom units, input the maximum allowable load capacity (in kg).
  • Select Packaging Method:
    • Pick your packaging type, such as A-frame, Palletizing, Wooden box packing, or Custom Packing. This accounts for packaging weight in total load calculation.
  • Input Packaging Weight:
    • Enter the estimated weight of packaging materials (usually auto-filled but adjustable for accuracy).
  • Enter Product Details:
    • For each granite item (slab, tile, block, or custom):
    • Input Length, Width, and Thickness (cm).
    • Either select granite Density (from common values or enter your own) or enter the Weight per Sq. Ft. for your selected thickness.
    • (Optional) Type in the quantity of each size.
  • Add Multiple Products/Sizes:
    • Click “+ Add Another Size” to enter details for more slab/block variations in the same shipment.
  • Review Available Payload:
    • The calculator displays the remaining payload capacity after subtracting packaging weight. You can adjust this value if needed.
  • Calculate & View Results:
    • Hit the “Calculate” button to see results including individual piece weight, maximum number of pieces per container or truck, total loaded weight, area, and volume.
    • If the entered quantity or load exceeds available payload, a warning message will appear.
  • Save or Share Results:
    • Save the summary for your records, logistics planning, or send to your supplier or shipping partner.

Expert Tips:

  • Always confirm transport unit payload limits before shipment.
  • Double-check granite sizes and thickness for accurate calculations.
  • Factor in extra packaging weight for international or long-distance shipments.
  • Use “custom” unit options for non-standard containers, trailers, or special shipping scenarios.

This calculator helps importers, exporters, and suppliers quickly estimate safe granite load quantities for containers or trucks, minimizing risk and optimizing transport costs.

How Does This Granite & Stone Load Calculator Work?

This calculator is designed specifically for granite container loads but can also be adapted for marble, quartz, or other stones. It works by calculating the total weight of slabs, tiles, or blocks and comparing it with the maximum payload capacity of shipping containers or trucks.

Formula Used:
Weight = Length × Width × Thickness × Density
Available Payload = Max Payload − Packaging Weight

1. Density Options

By default, granite density values are preloaded because they vary depending on the type of granite:

  • Light-Coloured Granite – slightly lower density
  • Mixed/Medium Granite – average density (default)
  • Dark Granite – higher density
  • Custom Density – enter your own value for other materials (e.g., marble, quartz, sandstone)

2. Measurements & Conversions

For accuracy, all slab/tile sizes are entered in centimeters (cm). If you have measurements in meters, feet, inches, or millimeters, use our built-in unit converter tool to quickly convert them into cm before calculation.

3. Container & Truck Capacities

The calculator is preloaded with industry-standard limits:

  • 20ft Container – approx. 28.20 tons (non-editable)
  • 40ft Container – approx. 28.80 tons (non-editable)
  • Custom (Truck) – default 40 tons, but fully editable for real-world adjustments

4. Packaging Weight

Since packaging (wooden crates, spacers, etc.) adds extra load, the packaging weight is always editable. The tool automatically recalculates:

Available Payload = Max Payload − Packaging Weight

For example, if a 20ft container has a max payload of 27.8 tons and you enter 0.8 tons as packaging, the available payload reduces to 27 tons.

5. Manual Adjustments for Local Regulations

In some regions, trucking regulations may allow only a reduced payload. For example, if the actual limit is 19.50 tons including packaging, you can manually override the available payload to reflect local law or port restrictions.

This way, the calculator not only tells you how many granite slabs fit in a 20ft or 40ft container, but also adapts to custom truckloads, packaging variations, and legal restrictions.

Calculate Shipping (container, trucks, rail rackc etc) Loads for Any Stone: Slabs, Tiles, and Blocks of All Materials

This powerful online tool isn’t limited to granite! You can use our Granite Shipping Container and Truck Capacity Calculator for any type of stone slab, tile, or block. Simply enter the size and either the material’s density or its weight per square foot. That’s all you need to get accurate results—even for marble, quartz, porcelain, and more.

Don’t know your stone’s density? No worries! Try our Density Calculator. Just select from 10 popular materials or enter your own value.

  • Granite – avg. density 2,630 kg/m³
  • Marble – avg. density 2,710 kg/m³
  • Quartz – avg. density 2,650 kg/m³
  • Soapstone – avg. density 2,980 kg/m³
  • Travertine – avg. density 2,500 kg/m³
  • Limestone – avg. density 2,560 kg/m³
  • Porcelain – avg. density 2,400 kg/m³
  • Flagstone – avg. density 2,750 kg/m³
  • Onyx – avg. density 2,680 kg/m³
